FAQ
What happens after I get in touch?
We can arrange a free 15 minute telephone consultation to introduce ourselves to each other. Following this you can decide if you would like for us to arrange a session.
What happens when we meet?
Short term and long term counselling - Following the brief telephone consultation in our first session we will explore in more depth what brings you to counselling and ensure we feel we are a good match to work together. We can then decide on the arrangement going forward.
Single session counselling - Following the brief telephone consultation I will have sent you a form to complete which will assist us with your focus for the session. I will also have sent a therapeutic agreement. This means we have the full 60 minutes to focus entirely on your issue. We can then schedule a follow up call (20 minutes) for a convenient time 2 weeks on.
How often?
For short-term and long-term counselling weekly is a good place to start, the sessions will be the same time each week.
Can I bring a friend along?
It can feel daunting attending a session for the first time and it may be that a friend can support you in attending the appointment, however the counselling space is for you to access independently.
I want my child to access counselling, can I arrange it for them? Can I come with them?
I offer counselling to those aged 13 and over. It is important that your child is involved in the decision of wanting to attend counselling.
In our initial communications I will invite a three way conversation so that we can create a therapeutic agreement together. You can provide support for your child in accessing an initial telephone consultation and in attending their counselling sessions but the sessions I offer are to be accessed independently.
Once the therapeutic agreement has been made we will only have contact to discuss practical arrangements of sessions and if I need to share any concerns I have around risk in order to keep your child safe.
Will you provide me with a report or share what my child says?
What is said within counselling is private and confidential unless I have permission from your child to share, there is a concern around safety or I am required to do so for legal reasons.
Do you work in schools?
I am happy to explore this possibility with you if your school is able to provide a suitable room.
