Short-term counselling

Generally considered 6-12 sessions

Long-term counselling

Ongoing sessions

  • Looks at patterns, past experiences, and emotions

  • Trauma 
  • Long-standing emotional difficulties, depression, anxiety
  • Personal growth and self-understanding 

Single session counselling

A one-time counselling session designed to address a specific issue, with a short follow up to reflect on progress 2 weeks later

  • Focuses on an immediate concern or decision
  • More solution-focused
  • No ongoing commitment

Best for:

  • A sudden problem (e.g. conflict, stress before an exam)
  • Getting quick clarity
  • Uncertainty around starting therapy
